Our Purpose
“Connecting Communities, Inspiring Progress.”
"Bringing fast, affordable internet to every village — unlocking growth, learning, and opportunity.”
Welcome to VilloThar, a community-powered internet service created for the villages of Tharparkar.
We believe that internet is no longer a luxury — it is a basic need for education, business, healthcare, and staying connected with loved ones. Yet, many villages remain offline or depend on expensive mobile data that does not truly serve them.
VilloThar is here to change that. By building local village towers and offering simple voucher-based access, we provide fast, reliable, and affordable internet that belongs to the community itself.
We are university students, and whenever we go back to our villages in Tharparkar, we feel completely cut off from the internet. Mobile ISP's have towers, but each tower is designed to cover 7–10 villages at once. The result is extremely weak signals — only enough for basic calls, and that too if you stand in a particular spot or climb to some height. For internet, people often climb domes or bhit just to catch a signal, and the maximum speed we have ever experienced is around 200 kbps.
This is not internet, this is survival.
We all know that the internet is not just technology — it is a window to the world. It helps us see beyond our boundaries, it gives us knowledge, information, and diversity of thought. Without it, rural communities remain stuck 150 years behind urban societies, unable to imagine the world that exists beyond their limited surroundings.
The truth is: our education system cannot do what the internet can do. The internet allows us to read, listen, and watch anything available in world. It gives us access to knowledge and skills that no school in our villages can ever provide. And growth only comes from diversity and knowledge.
The lack of internet is not just about missing out on entertainment. It is about lost futures. In Tharparkar, many university students return to their villages with skills and education — but they find no infrastructure to apply their knowledge. We have not many companies which give the employment to every young person. For them, the only real option to earn a livelihood is through the internet — freelancing, digital businesses, online services — which are cheap to start but can bring high returns. Yet without reliable internet, even this door is closed.
Tharparkar already suffers from poverty and famine from decades. Everyone knows how people live here. Without connectivity, poverty will only deepen. But with affordable, fast internet, we can change the story.
That is why we took the step to launch this initiative — to provide fast and affordable internet to every village of Tharparkar. Our goal is to give each household at least 4 Mbps speed — enough to attend lectures on Zoom, do online free courses and certification from google and coursera, join video meetings, run small businesses, live-stream events, and connect with the outside world.
The impact will be transformational:
Education will improve when students can attend online classes and access resources.
Healthcare will improve when villagers learn about hygiene, nutrition, and diseases.
Poverty will reduce when people can start online businesses and freelance work.
Opportunities will open for the next generation, bringing Tharparkar closer to the modern world.
We believe that internet is not a luxury — it is survival, it is education, it is employment, it is life.
